Jesus Christ is the head of Heartland Community Church, and as a community our desire is to honor and reflect Jesus Christ in all we do and how we do it.
There are four groups of people who lead the ministries of Heartland: the Elders, the Board of Directors, the Directional/Leadership Team, and the staff. The goal of each of these groups of leaders is to help you discover what you were made for by providing the tools you need to unlock God’s plan for your life.
A significant thing that makes Heartland different is that one person does not hold the traditional role of the senior pastor. Instead, several individuals use their individual gifts and strengths to lead the church.
Mark Bankord is Heartland’s Directional Leader and co-founder of the church. Mark is a visionary leader, and provides directional leadership to the Heartland Staff and the church body. Mark leads the Directional/Leadership Team, chairs the Board of Directors and meets with the elders.
Doug Thiesen is Heartland’s Lead Pastor. He partnered with Mark and Sherri Bankord to start Heartland and for the first ten years served as Heartland’s Music Director and Worship Leader. He is an ordained minister. Today Doug serves in many areas of spiritual direction throughout Heartland. He is part of the Directional/Leadership Team and also meets with and gives input to the Board of Directors and Elders as needed.
Mike Breaux is Heartland’s weekend teaching pastor. His primary role is to provide transformational teaching every weekend. Mike leads a team of other gifted teachers that teach periodically on the weekend or in other ministries of Heartland. Mike is part of the Directional/Leadership Team.

The purpose of celebrate recovery is to bring about spiritual transformation through the experience of God’s healing power in our lives as we work through the 12 “steps” based upon eight recovery principles found in the Beatitudes of Jesus Christ. This experience allows us to be changed. We grow and are transformed by sharing our experiences, struggles, victories, and hopes with one another. Over time, we learn to accept God’s grace in helping us overcome our hurts, habits and hang-ups.
By working the Christ-centered steps and applying their biblical principles we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the principles and the steps we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power Jesus Christ.
Realize I’m not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.
“Blessed are those who are spiritually poor.”
Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him, and that He has the power to help me recover.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control.
“Blessed are the meek.”
Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself, and to someone I trust.
“Blessed are the pure in heart.”
Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.
“Blessed are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires.”
Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.
“Blessed are the merciful and the peacemakers.”
Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.
Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.
“Blessed are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.”
