Isn’t this an exciting time of year? Summer is giving way to autumn as the leaves begin to reveal their true colors, school is back in session, we have the promise of football every weekend and around Heartland we have the fall launch of so many great ministries.
Take a look at some of the things that are happening at Heartland right now:
Engage and Delta: Heartland’s junior high and high school ministries are in full swing meeting on Wednesday nights at Heartland from 6:00-8:15 p.m.
Financial Peace University: FPU just kicked off their fall session! They meet Monday nights at Heartland from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There’s still time to join, you can register online at the Sun Prairie campus page of the website.
Becoming: Heartland’s women’s ministry has added more options than ever and we have record numbers of women learning and growing together on Wednesday mornings and Thursday nights! If you’d like to get involved with Becoming, just email
We’ve already seen some exciting changes for the fall as well:
LAUNCH: New name, more fun! LAUNCH: Kid’s at Heartland is the new name for the children’s ministry at Heartland. Let me just say what a phenomenal job our entire LAUNCH volunteer team did in making the switch. The new branding is fun, exciting, and matches our mission perfectly for the ministry because we want to help launch our kids on their spiritual journey.
Let me also just highlight a couple things that are still to come:
Grouplink: If you’re not currently in a Growth Group or are looking to change groups this fall Grouplink is a great way to get plugged in! Growth Groups are one of the best ways to get connected and grow in your spiritual journey as you talk about the weekend teaching and how it applies to your life with a small group of people. Grouplink happens at Heartland this coming Sunday, (the 27th) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. You can register online for Grouplink at www.heartland.cc. And if you need someone to watch your kids during the event, you can register for KidCare online as well.
Family Fusion: Family Fusion is Heartland’s brand new Family Ministry that happens every Tuesday in October. Each week there will be great music, teaching, interactive games and activities for parents and kids to do together, all of which are designed to build your families relationship with God and each other.
The Family Fusion team has put together an incredible first season called “Extreme Makeover: Family Edition.” Check out the titles of each week: Week 1: Well-built Walls Week 2: Raise the Roof Week 3: Wide Open Windows Week 4: Room by Room
Family Fusion is FREE, but we need you to register. You can do that either online by using the event registration on the Sun Prairie campus page of the website or by calling 608.834.1900. KidCare is available for your kids age 2 and under.
Let me encourage you to make Family Fusion a high priority for your family. As a young dad who’s had a sneak peek at each of the four topics being covered, I couldn’t think of a better way for you to spend 1 hour a week for four weeks with your family. I truly believe the benefits will last for years.
Overall, let me just say how excited I am by everything that God is doing in and through us as a church. I know that “greater things are yet to come,” and it’s the adventure of my lifetime to get to do this with all of you. Thanks for making Heartland an inclusive, fun environment; continue inviting your friends and family! We have a truly transformational series coming up in October around relationships and marriage called Explicit Lyrics, which will be the perfect time to bring others with you!

On Vision weekend I shared a desire to increase communication with those in the church who wanted to stay up to date on all that God is doing in and through us. As part of that desire, I will be frequently posting updates to this website; many times going into more detail than we have time for in a Sunday morning announcement. Sign up if you would like to receive an automatic email that lets you know when I’ve posted an update. sign up here. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions and comments.

Leadership Structure
Jesus Christ is the head of Heartland Community Church, and as a community our desire is to honor and reflect Jesus Christ in all we do and how we do it.
There are four groups of people who lead the ministries of Heartland in Rockford and Sun Prairie: the Elders, the Board of Directors, the Directional/Leadership Team, and the staff. The goal of each of these groups of leaders is to help you discover what you were made for by providing the tools you need to unlock GodÕs plan for your life.
At Heartland: Rockford and Sun Prairie, no one person holds the traditional role of senior pastor. Instead, several individuals use their individual gifts and strengths to lead the church.
Mark Bankord is Heartland's Directional Leader and co-founder of the church. Mark is a visionary leader, and provides directional leadership to the Heartland Staff and the church body. Mark leads the Directional/Leadership Team, chairs the Board of Directors and meets with the elders.
Jon McNary is Heartland: Sun Prairie's Lead Pastor. He leads the weekend and special worship experiences, brings day-to-day leadership to the staff and volunteers, and is part of the Directional/Leadership Team.
Jim Sheldon is Heartland: Sun Prairie's Director of Adult Ministries. He oversees ministries such as Men's Fraternity, Becoming, Marriage Matters, Financial Peace University, and the First Impressions team. He is part of the Directional/Leadership Team.
Heartland: Sun Prairie's local leadership team includes Jon McNary, Jim Sheldon, Nicole Moll (Children's Ministries) and Dan Wolf (Student Ministries).
Mike Breaux is Heartland's weekend teaching pastor. His primary role is to provide transformational teaching every weekend. Mike leads a team of other gifted teachers that teach periodically on the weekend or in other ministries of Heartland. Mike is part of the Directional/Leadership Team.
